The Tantric Yoga of Kashmir Shaivism
Kashmir Shaivism is a Tantric philosophy from Kashmir, in the Himalayas of India, that originated between 500 and 550 A.D.;
It is considered the highest and most transcendent Tantric yoga philosophy. It represents a fundamental outlook on the Universe, allowing students to understand their own true nature through contemplation and meditation.
Kashmir Shaivism is a philosophy of non-dualism or monism, which transmits to us that we are not separate from God, and we are not separate from each other. There is only One, there is only Universal Consciousness which is represented by Shiva in the Hindu tradition. There is no reality but Shiva. The fact that we look separate from each other is an illusion, we are simply individual expressions of Universal Consciousness. Our sense organs do not show us the complete picture. Deep down we are all connected. We are all part of the Universal Consciousness. Part of Shiva.
This Tantric yoga philosophy provides techniques designed to expand awareness. It is a practical system that has emphasis on direct realization of its truth apprehended through direct experience.
I was very fortunate to take my teacher training in The Kashmir Shaivism School of Yoga, in the Himalayas with Amet Raina, born in Srinigar Kashmir, whose grandfather was a disciple of Swami Ram Ji, a great master in the unbroken lineage back to Abhinavagupta, the greatest of all the Tantric masters. Amet grew up surrounded by great Shaivic masters such as Swami Lakshmanjoo who helped revive both the scholarly and yogic streams of Kashmir Shaivism. Swami Lakshmanjoo´s contribution is enormous, inspiring a generation of scholars.
"Kundalini Shakti is the concealing and revealing energy of Lord Shiva. Para (supreme) Kundalini is the heart and existence of Shiva, in fact it is the life and glory of Shiva, it is Shiva himself." - Kashmir Shaivism, the Secret Supreme
